This fully restored Model 1876 Saddle Ring Carbine was issued to the Canadian North West Mounted Police.  These distinctive full length forend carbines were used by the NWMP as well as other groups such as the Citizens Guard of the Republic of Hawaii.  This carbine is serial numbered in the 40,000 range and is listed in “Winchester’s North West Mounted Police Carbines” by Lewis Yearout. 

Yearout’s notes about order #11518 are as follows.

“Early in 1884, an order was placed for 50 1876 carbines.  Winchester Shipping order number 11518 was shipped on April 23, 1884.  The shipment contained 50 “New Pattern” carbines with the following serial numbers”.

Serial number 39872 – 39900 including number 39900 
Serial number 40001 – 40021 including number 40021  

The Cody Firearms record search returned the following information:

– Date Shipped: 4-23-1884
– Order Number: 11518 

The original stocks were in terrible condition and were not usable for the restoration.  The original NWMP stamp found on some of these carbines has been re-stamped to match the original stock.  The original stock is included with the sale of this rifle to authenticate the NWMP marking in the stock.
