Featured in our restoration gallery today is a Colt Government Model 1911 Commercial, originally shipped in 1919. Based on their early success of the standard military M1911 pistols, Colt marketed a commercial version of that pistol for sale.
This example was manufactured just after the completion of the First World War. Note all proper early features, including correct polish (post serial number 4,500), charcoal bluing, checkered double diamond walnut grips, short wide spur checkered hammer, checkered slide stop and safety, long smooth trigger, smooth flat mainspring housing with lanyard. Slide with 1913 patent date with pony in center and correct period sights.
