On Sunday, after the AAA Texas 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Race, Doug Turnbull presented the winner, Tony ‘Smoke’ Stewart and the #14 team, with a pair of Turnbull Mfg. Company custom revolvers.  Tony fired off the guns ‘Texas-Style’ before he was presented with his trophy. Congratulations to both Greg Biffle and Tony Stewart for being the latest NASCAR drivers to win our guns!

Doug Turnbull attends the Tony Stewart 'Smoke Show'

The Tony Stewart Stewart ‘Smoke Show’ took place at Texas Motor Speedway this past August.   This event is a way for people to experience a day in the life of a Sprint Cup driver.  The day is full – starting with a driver’s meeting, driver introductions, parade laps, and time behind the wheel driving a replica racecar around the track at top speeds.  Participants then received a ride of a lifetime with Tony himself.  After the racing was said and done, everyone gathered in Victory Lane for a celebration that included firing the famous six shooters that Turnbull Manufacturing built. The day was concluded with a dinner and an auction in which Turnbull Manufacturing donated a custom and one of a kind ‘Smoke Show’ Turnbull Model 1886 rifle. The rifle featured flames carved into the buttstock and forend, and engraving that included the logos of ‘Smoke Show’, Texas Motor Speedway, and Speedway Children’s Charities.  The engraving was finished off with Tony Stewarts signature, the star of Texas and the outline of the state of Texas. Speedway Children’s Charities was founded to care for children in educational, financial, social and medical need in an effort to help them live produtive lives. Doug is looking forward to participating in next years event.

Texas Motor Speedway for the AAA 500 Race weekend

We just recently returned back from our trip to Texas Motor Speedway for the AAA 500 Race weekend – November 5th-7th..  One thing we learned this trip is that Texans really do things “BIG”. More about that later… Doug arrived on Thursday, November 4th and had an opportunity to participate in the Sam Hornish, Jr. Celebrity Bowling Match.  There were many celebrities there including Sam Hornish, Jr., Rutledge Wood, and Kurt Busch to name a few.  They also had a chance to catch up with some friends/customers that they had met at the Tony Stewart “Smoke Show” back in August. After a few interviews with local television and radio stations, they met up with the rest of the crew from Turnbull Mfg. that arrived on Friday afternoon.  We all went to the track to get ready to watch qualifying.  We all had our own personal favorite drivers that we were hoping to be able to present our custom rifle to for the pole award.  And, as a matter of fact, one of us lucked out because Elliott Sadler won the pole award for the first time in three years.  Elliott is a huge fan of hunting so the pole award prize, a custom built Turnbull Manufactured Model 1886 Take Down, that was awarded to him was very fitting for Elliott and Turnbull Manufacturing. During the Truck race that evening, we headed down for an interview with Jeff, a weatherman from KTXA 21. While we were wrapping up the interview, we learned that Guy Fieri and Mario Batali were to arrive at any moment for their interview with Jeff.  We all got to meet the both of them quickly before they were rushed off to their next appearance at the Camping World Truck Series Race. On Saturday, we watched Carl Edwards take the checkered flag at the Nationwide Series race.  After the race, we met up with a customer of ours who has several campsites within the infield.  Adam Mize and his friends entertained us before a few of us went over to the Asphalt Chef Competition at the Lone Star Tower Clubhouse.  This competition featured Guy Fieri, Mario Batali and Tim Love cooking Texas style cuisine. On race day, before the race, we attended the drivers meeting, watched Willie Nelson perform the pre-race show and then presented the pole award to Elliott Sadler during driver introductions.  During that presentation, Turnbull Manufacturing’s logo was on the jumbo tron for all to see. While the race was going on, we met up again with Adam Mize at his condo, just off of turn 2 and that’s where we experienced “BIG”.  Adam invited us all up for the biggest and best tasting rib eye steaks ever.  His chef, Isaac, made the most amazing lunch for us, providing us with our fuel for the rest of the day’s activities.  We then went back to our suite to watch some more of the race.  With 40 laps to go we decided to head down to pit row so we could be ready to get to Victory lane to present the pistols to the race winner.  The race winner was a familiar face for TMC.  Denny Hamlin won the race and another set of Turnbull Mfg pistols.  Denny, once again, fired off the pistols “Texas Style”. Our trip this November was amazing.  We were welcomed by everyone that works at the race track, customers and friends that we have met along the way, as well as the NASCAR community.  We look forward to next year’s races in 2011.

Custom Turnbull Revolvers

Custom Turnbull Mfg. Co. Revolvers for the Smoke Show

On August 17th we attended the Tony Stewart Smoke Show at the Texas Motor Speedway, to benefit Speedway Children’s Charities. The charity was founded to care for children in educational, financial, social, and medial need in an effort to help them live productive lives. We donated two custom revolvers engraved with Tony Stewart’s signature and Speedway Children’s Charities logo for the charity’s auction. We are very pleased to say that the pair of revolvers raised $35,000 for the charity! All together the auction raised $250,000 for Speedway Children’s Charities.  We both had the opportunity to drive 10 laps at the Texas Motor Speedway and ride with Tony Stewart in a Sprint Cup Series car. Doug got up to 136 MPH . The event also included a personalized fire suit and helmet that we were able to take home. After participants had the chance to race around the track in a stock car they celebrated by shooting off our Turnbull Mfg. Co. custom revolvers in Victory Lane. Turnbull Custom Revolvers Following the racing was a question and answer dinner for 200 people featuring Tony Stewart.  The dinner and Speedway Children’s Charities auction was held at the House of Blues in Dallas. Auction items included autographed NASCAR memorabilia, and the Turnbull Mfg. Co. custom revolvers.  After dinner musical entertainment was provided by the Goo Goo Dolls. This event was an amazing experience for us. We are already looking forward to attending next year. Tony Stewart Smoke Show Pictures

Turnbull on the Road: NASCAR Sprint Cup Series at Texas Motor Speedway in April

The weekend of April 17th and 18th (and 19th) we were honored to provide Turnbull manufactured firearms to the winners of the April NASCAR Sprint Cup Series at Texas Motor Speedway. We manufactured a custom rifle for the winner of the pole position race and custom pistols for the winner of the primary NASCAR race. Read more about these commemorative firearms. Before the races, we were fortunate to be able to attend the Texas Motor Speedway proclamation day in Fort Worth and give people a sneak peak of the commemorative firearms Turnbull would be presenting to the winners of that weekend’s races. While we were there we met Texas Governor, Rick Perry; Fort Worth Mayor, Mike Moncrief; President of Texas Motor Speedway, Eddie Gossage; NASCAR racer Bobby Labonte; and others. We were impressed that they blocked off some main streets in downtown Fort Worth to hold the event! The first race was the pole position race on Friday. Always an unpredictable race where potential winners can appear with each new race time, we were pleasantly surprised when Tony Stewart jumped from about the 11th position to 1st and won the race. After the race, Tony drove his car up and we presented the commemorative rifle. Tony was able to shoot the rifle off in the winner’s circle. The big race, originally schedule to take place on Sunday, April 18th was postponed to Monday the 19th due to rain. The race was exciting and even though the weather was threatening even on Monday, the race went on as planned. It did end with a crash with only about 20 laps to go, but luckily no one was hurt! Denny Hamlin was the winner of that race and he received the two Turnbull manufactured pistols. We presented the pistols to Denny who also fired them off in the winner’s circle.
View pictures from these events Look for Turnbull again at the IndyCar Series Race at Texas Motor Speedway on June 5th where we will be shooting off another set of commemorative pistols. We’ll also be presenting an additional set of commemorative shotgun and pistols to the winners of the AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway on November 7th.

Turnbull Manufacturing Romances Texas Motor Speedway

If you are anything like me, you love NASCAR!

http://www.texas.speedwaycharities.orgBack in August of 2007 I was watching my favorite driver Tony Stewart win the race at Texas Motor Speedway and shooting off a gun in Victory Lane! (I’ll add the gun was not as beautiful as a Turnbull manufactured firearm.)

I immediately fired off a letter (pun intended) to the folks at Texas Motor Speedway singing praises of
Turnbull Manufacturing. Along with the letter, I sent a custom made pen holder and Turnbull catalog. To my dismay, I got no response!

I shot off another package to yet another in the chain of command at Texas Motor Speedway – same sweet package with the letter, catalog and pen holder. Still no response. I have already made the decision Turnbull Manufactured Firearms need to be in victory lane, so I continue my pursuit.

Third package sent out with the same goods, but to yet another person at Texas Motor Speedway. This time I get a phone call. I was told to “stop being a pain”, and “they got the message loud and clear”. I was further informed they were under contract with another company who was providing the Victory Lane firearms. I wasn’t giving up…

I continued to send emails, letters and each newly printed Turnbull catalog as they were released to this third contact over the years. I followed up in 2009 to see if that “other vendor” still had a contract, and again to my dismay they had just renewed.

Did I mention I had already decided that Turnbull Manufactured firearms were meant to be in Victory Lane at Texas Motor Speedway? I wasn’t about to give up hope.

March 8, 2010 my phone rings… I’m getting ready to leave for a gun show in Germany and the voice on the oth
er end of the line asked “can you help us?” I don’t think I need to tell you who that was. If you’ve seen the news and you’re a fan of ours on Facebook, then you already know that Turnbull Manufacturing is providing the Pole Trophy and Victory Lane Firearms for the 2010 racing season at Texas Motor Speedway – starting with the Samsung Mobile 500 race this weekend.

We’ll be there with these custom manufactured and custom engrave firearms. I’d love to hand
Tony Stewart these 45 Colt revolvers to fire in Victory Lane!

Go Tony!
