The Colt Single Action Army “Peacemaker” revolver is a famous piece of Americana. The SAA was designed for the U.S. government service revolver trials of 1872 by Colt’s Patent Firearms Manufacturing Company and was adopted as the standard military service revolver until 1892. This restored example from 1884 is of the “black powder frame” variety, characterized by its cylinder base pin retaining system that used a single screw located at the front of the revolver’s frame. Collectors will note, the nuances of the restoration’s bone charcoal case colors are faithful to its original, early period.

History Restored:

• Fit new 7-1/2” single action barrel, black powder rifling as original, install sight as original
• Fit period-correct reproduction ejector rod and tip
• Fit new cylinder bushing to correct fit of cylinder to frame, fit new base pin
• Fit second generation cylinder
• Rebuild all hammer notches to original, adjust bolt hand and properly time revolver
• Provide reproduction bolt, hand and trigger
• Fit reproduction SAA trigger guard and backstrap
• Fit new one-piece walnut grips to frame, hand-rubbed oil finish
• Weld and rebuild frame at black powder retention screw and ejector housing lug, weld damaged frame at grip transition
• Box anneal frame, gate and hammer
• Polish to period-correct finish
• Restore original markings to receiver and parts
• All screws replaced, high polished
• Color case harden frame, gate and hammer
• Charcoal blue cylinder, barrel, trigger guard, backstrap and parts
• Nitre blue SAA base pin, trigger and screws
