Collectors of U.S. military sidearms will immediately recognize the historical significance of this early Springfield Armory Model 1911, serial number 117749. Originally manufactured in 1915, this .45 ACP pistol was produced during the early years of the First World War, when Springfield Armory joined Colt in supplying the U.S. military with John Moses Browning’s groundbreaking semi-automatic pistol design. Unlike the more numerous Colt-manufactured examples, Springfield Armory’s government-issued 1911s are prized for their rarity, unique markings, and wartime production heritage.
This particular Springfield 1911 was fully restored by Turnbull Restoration in 2017. Our restoration team paid close attention to the details that define these early pistols: the crisp Springfield Armory slide roll marks, the flaming bomb military acceptance proofs, and the period-correct finish. All restoration work was performed using traditional methods and finishes, including rich rust blue and properly checkered walnut double-diamond grips. The result is a visually stunning and historically faithful restoration that honors the pistol’s military roots.
As a 1915 production gun, this Springfield saw the light of day just before America’s official entry into World War I—yet its very existence speaks to the nation’s efforts to arm and prepare its military forces. Firearms like this one often served in various branches of the military for years before being retired, and many were lost to time or modified beyond recognition. This example has been preserved and restored with the utmost care, capturing the essence of the original while showcasing the skill and reverence of true craftsmanship.
Now ready for its new home, this Springfield Armory Model 1911 stands as a cornerstone opportunity for the discerning collector. Whether you’re building a serious collection of U.S. military pistols or looking for a centerpiece that tells a powerful American story, this fully restored 1911 is a timeless choice—one that connects us to the brave men who carried it more than a century ago.
Includes hand-made travel case. Ammunition not included.
