Description

This rifle is a Spencer 1860 Carbine. This antique black powder rifle is dated between 1863 and 1865.

The firearm was originally chambered in .52, but is an example of post American Civil War alteration by Springfield Armory to .50 caliber. The alteration is indicated by the inspector’s mark “ESA”, which is found in an oval cartouche on the left side of the stock.

Refinished forend wood and missing barrel band. Stock is in excellent condition with crisp cartouche. Good bluing on barrel with slight surface rust. Barrel has slight ring inside, but not visible on the outside. Good bore. Receiver and parts show good original color case finish.

An excellent acquisition for any Spencer black powder collector.
