The Turnbull 1886 rifle has been selected to the 2nd annual “bracket” challenge similar to the NCAA Tournament bracket where America votes for their favorite guns. Seated at #7, the Turnbull 1886 goes up against the Mossberg MVP Flex. The color case hardened action, and the expertly finished American black walnut stocks should set this lever action apart from the field. The first show of the New Year took us to the Dallas Safari Club Convention in Dallas, Texas. This gathering brought an international organization of hunters, conservationalists and wildlife enthusiasts together. We brought a number of restored originals as well as a handful of our newly manufactured firearms which included the Turnbull Model 1886, Turnbull Model 1911, Turnbull Commander, and the Turnbull TAR-15. Although we were located in a different section of the show this year, many people sought us out to admire our restored firearms and to view our Turnbull firearms in person. There was a considerable amount of interest in our restored firearms, particularly the Winchester lever actions and the Colt 1911. Turnbull Manufacturing Company’s craftsman have a great reputation for restoring vintage firearms back to their original condition using the same techniques that were perfected over 100 years ago. As always, we enjoy visiting with our customers, meeting potential new ones and simply meeting the people that appreciate our work. https://www.turnbullrestoration.com/store.asp?pid=20025&catid=19872

The Tony Stewart Stewart ‘Smoke Show’ took place at Texas Motor Speedway this past August. This event is a way for people to experience a day in the life of a Sprint Cup driver. The day is full – starting with a driver’s meeting, driver introductions, parade laps, and time behind the wheel driving a replica racecar around the track at top speeds. Participants then received a ride of a lifetime with Tony himself. After the racing was said and done, everyone gathered in Victory Lane for a celebration that included firing the famous six shooters that Turnbull Manufacturing built. The day was concluded with a dinner and an auction in which Turnbull Manufacturing donated a custom and one of a kind ‘Smoke Show’ Turnbull Model 1886 rifle. The rifle featured flames carved into the buttstock and forend, and engraving that included the logos of ‘Smoke Show’, Texas Motor Speedway, and Speedway Children’s Charities. The engraving was finished off with Tony Stewarts signature, the star of Texas and the outline of the state of Texas. Speedway Children’s Charities was founded to care for children in educational, financial, social and medical need in an effort to help them live produtive lives. Doug is looking forward to participating in next years event.

If you read our recent post about how the whole Turnbull Manufacturing / Texas Motor Speedway relationship came to be, then you also know that I am a Tony Stewart fan. I love NASCAR, and would have been happy to present the pole trophy to any driver, but to have the honor to presenting to Tony was just awesome.
This photo of Tony holding the Turnbull rifle is from an article in USA Today about Tony’s first pole in 5 years.
We’ve met some amazing folks this weekend from Governor Perry to Jeff Gordon and several in between. We look forward to share more in the coming week as we get back from Texas.
As for now, we’re waiting on the rain to lift and the track to dry so racing can get underway. It’s been a great couple of days – and it looks like our stay may get extended a day or so if the race is postponed until tomorrow.
Stay tuned for more great stories and photos from Texas and Turnbull Manufacturing.
